Adam DesAutels did a pretty good job describing Twitter in his blog post from earlier today. And I concur totally.
And in fact we were having intensive and very funny talks about Twitter on the Joomla! Days I spoke at a week ago and came to the conclusion, that all websites should be limited to 140 characters… would surely be hard for a lot of verbose people – but how many times have you wished for a limitation on publishing on the web?
And it’s against my belief there are some serious issues about Twitter which transfer it’s status from a toy to a professional level.
The genious thing about it is, that you can have your friends feeds transported to your cell phone (even if your friends publish from “on the road”). And not only the feeds of your real life friends from around the globe, but also from several news networks (who will publish the headlines of breaking news on Twitter). The most fascinating thing I saw was when LaughingSquid created live SMS broadcast yesterday, when the Olympic Torch went through San Francisco!
Another good utilization of Twitter that I’ve heard of was that fire departments are publishing their tours. I imaging the reason would be to inform the local media about what’s happening? But also make the public aware of traffic jams that might occur because of fire fighters working? Who knows – ingenious plan anyhow! Love it!
Anyhow: Twitter has gone from a funny little gadget to a full grown media source, so keep on twitting – or whatever. And for those that want to follow me – feel free to do so (click)
