there are several issues that come along with that. Primarily though, you should encourage either your employees to be present for you on the web. Another important issue is getting the word out about your product. Perhaps having detailed videos on YouTube about the work you do. Or if you have consumer products etc. have videos showing their usage. If the video is unique enough you may very well end up getting it watched a few million times with the result that a percentage of the viewers will visit your website to want to know more.
Blogging is to be seen as an indirect marketing tool as you can use external blogs, which seemingly don’t belong to you, link towards your website or your own corporate blog. This way you’ll be able ot attract visitors and have the issue of third party validation covered.
There are a lot of issues out there in which new media/social media/web 2.0 can be utilized. But the concepts behind that have to be unique in order to work. That is why I have specialized in this field.

Lars, a few quick thoughts -
As much as I hope otherwise (in the context of business, professional behaviors) the larger networks I am connected to often make me feel like I’m lost within a large city! I have the phone numbers for a few friends I know very well but it can be very challenging to truly understand the personalities, abilities, intelligence of the many others to whom I speak, or who express a desire to be designated as one of my “friends”. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoy being in large cities but there is no doubt it takes time to understand the layout, traditions, how best to navigate etc.
Secondly, I’m hoping that some day soon we’ll begin to see Social Network maps that make sense. There’s some guy on LinkedIn who has direct contact with 40,000 other members! What I’d really like to know is if this single measurement is of value in terms of the subjects I’m personally interested in. Who are the great communicators, commentors, editors, verifiers, and so on, by subject?
Again, you are right, there is a type of communication revolution going on… I think we are still only in the initial phase.
