As for the stream you can have the RSS feed burned through feedburner which will monitor the subscribers of the stream.

you can either go the cheap way and pull your RSS feed from an external platform (blogspot, wordpress.com, or whatever) into your website, format it so it looks pretty and voila, there you go.
Now, the expensive version is to do the same thing I did on my website (http://lars-hilse.de/) which was more of an accident. I had created a website and then integrated my own wordpress blog into there. Cost a lot of tears and sweat though. The point I’m trying to get to is that you’ll have the full functionality which you will NOT! have when you just import the feed (comments, etc.).

Before any misundestandings arise: Twitter’s architecture is ingenious because you have to click “follow” until you can be spammed!

Seems like Twitter finally hit the tipping point, as Hjörtur mentioned in his post from yesterday. And yes, there are good and sad stories associated to this platform, which @hjortur was also so kind to summarize.

That being said… As a web strategist I am constantly on the prowl for new ideas. Good and bad ones alike. And yesterday I got my first post of a person who twitters updates on a certain product and sent me an invitation to follow them on twitter which marked the coming of the darkage for Twitter-Land ruining this spam-free atmosphere that was – until now – out there.

Anyhow… this person proclaimed to search the web for the cheapest offers, updates and all associated content regarding one certain product. When I reviewed their last tweets, the links contained therein all led back to one single URL which was – curiously enough – focussed solely around this product. My three newest pairs of boxers that it was their URL

Update: another email I received today sold a certain product. And if yesterday’s mail wasn’t, this one was so obvious SPAM that I was about to report it. And then I remembered… this person doesn’t need to be reported because they can’t harm ANYONE without getting people to sign up with their Tweets Darn, I love Twitter for forcing SPAMMERS to have to invite their prey

And I concur totally.

And in fact we were having intensive and very funny talks about Twitter on the Joomla! Days I spoke at a week ago and came to the conclusion, that all websites should be limited to 140 characters… would surely be hard for a lot of verbose people – but how many times have you wished for a limitation on publishing on the web?

And it’s against my belief there are some serious issues about Twitter which transfer it’s status from a toy to a professional level.

The genious thing about it is, that you can have your friends feeds transported to your cell phone (even if your friends publish from “on the road”). And not only the feeds of your real life friends from around the globe, but also from several news networks (who will publish the headlines of breaking news on Twitter). The most fascinating thing I saw was when LaughingSquid created live SMS broadcast yesterday, when the Olympic Torch went through San Francisco!

Another good utilization of Twitter that I’ve heard of was that fire departments are publishing their tours. I imaging the reason would be to inform the local media about what’s happening? But also make the public aware of traffic jams that might occur because of fire fighters working? Who knows – ingenious plan anyhow! Love it!

Anyhow: Twitter has gone from a funny little gadget to a full grown media source, so keep on twitting – or whatever. And for those that want to follow me – feel free to do so (click)

Over and out

Lars

Although it seems a bit unorthodox at first sight the way ActiveCollab has gained fame is probably one of the most ingenious ones I’ve ever seen on the web.

Until late 2007 and version 0.7.x, ActiveCollab was declared an Open Source project and free of charge and use. It did have a few bugs back then but was – all in all – usable.

Today, I wanted to check back and take another look at the project to see whether the tool had been cleaned of the bugs and if it was now ready for real use. Arriving on the page I looked for the download link which had been replaced with a “Pricing & Buy” button.

I don’t know how the general public, especially those that have contributed ideas and code to the project, think about it. But I’d be pretty pissed off if my intellectual contributions, time, and effort would be used to gain profit.

Bottom line: ingenious way to get the word out about a tool! My respect.
